Somebody said we should be praying every day for the Day of Pentecost.
I asked...”are we Jews”? Even Jews don’t celebrate Shavuot every day!
“What is Shavuot”? The person asked!
With one corner eye I answered....
“Pentecost is the Greek name for Shavuot...
It was an early harvest festival seven weeks after the firstfruit offerings of Passover!
It was primarily a thanksgiving for the firstfruits of the wheat harvest.....and you don’t harvest wheat everyday. So mind your language”. I retorted.
“But can’t we be praying for Holy Spirit to come down everyday?” The person asked again?
“Jeeez...everyday? Has Holy Ghost gone back to heaven that he must be summoned down again?....as in everyday? Look, if Holy Ghost should have a reason to leave, He won’t come back”.
“Why sir?”
“We are not of one accord. We are very divided. We attack and butcher ourselves. We pull ourselves down! You think Holy Ghost will come to that mess?”
“Hmmm...but you know sir, I know Holy Ghost may not come like that but God’s Holy Spirit can still show mercy by coming everyday”.
Pen dropped.
Lost in silence.
Looked at the person.
A million questions were about to flood themselves out of my mouth....one came out.
“Do you even know what you are talking about?”
“What sir?” The person asked innocently.
“Holy Spirit....Holy Ghost....thingy you have been punctuating on.
“Well, I think Holy Spirit is the spirit of God that came on Pentecost and Holy Ghost is the power in that spirit....honestly sir, I am sometimes confused”.
“Well, honestly, I don’t know where to start with you. Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are one and same! No difference”.
“Seriously sir?”
“The difference is KJV”!
“I thought one is like the air and the other is like the wind”.
Everything in me evaporated!
One question was about to forcefully come out.....I held it back.....no, a gentle spirit held it back rather.
Is there a spiritual nursery or kindergarten for those in the kingdom?
There are many who innocently call Amala ‘brown poundo’ just like my children do. And we just have to patiently carry them along in love.
I guess for the sake of some, we should bend back to go and collect many at the elementary principle of Christ teachings.
God bless.
